Bubblebath for Mom

This last weekend, I had a chance to do something I've not done in almost 14 years of marriage. I went away....completely by myself. No husband. No kids. No friends. No conference or retreat or event. I just went away. I needed a weekend of quiet to reflect and to write.

I didn't go far. I was 13 miles from home. I just went to stay at a friend's home while they were out of town and enjoy the quiet.

When I went to pick up the keys and take a tour, my friend told me that she wanted me to use her bathtub.

I don't ever take baths.

Why?

Well......

To take a bath at my house, involves first removing 13 action figures, 23 hotwheels, a basketball, a soggy bar of soap, and a few drowned band-aids. Then I have to scrub out the soap scum ring and the sand.

If I wait until the kids are in bed, I may reduce the banging on the door down to once every 15 minutes, rather than every 5. After yelling through the door six times that they can't come in because you are in the bath and that they can use the bathroom downstairs and that they are a big boy and can go in the basement by themselves and nothing will hurt them....it just isn't relaxing anymore.

So, I did not need my arm twisted much to take a bath in my friend's nice big, clean, action figure free tub.

If the tub wasn't enough, my friend spoiled me completely to the point I may never recover.

Bath 1
When I arrived, the tub was surrounded by 17 candles - yes I counted them. I'm funny like that.

Bath 2
Hershey Kisses, rose petals, a lighter....

Bath 3
....and a gift for me.

Now, isn't that just amazing. There were also fresh flowers in my room and mints on my pillow. My friend seriously needs to open a bed and breakfast.

Let me tell you, it is just much easier to give all your cares to Jesus when you are in a bubble bath surrounded by candles and chocolates. Know what I mean?
